Surah Al Mulk (“Sovereignty, Kingdom”) is the 67th Surah/chapter of the Holy Quran. It is one of the most well-known and most recited chapters and most Muslim people give priority to memorizing it. This surah has the most beneficial meanings and teachings for Muslims who want to live according to Allah (SWT)’s sayings.

The Surah Al Mulk emphasizes the ayah: 

 Say, ˹O Prophet,˺ “That knowledge is with Allah alone, and I am only sent with a clear warning.” (67:26).

We can learn the main purpose of our lives by understanding the meaning of the Al Mulk and understanding Allah’s supremacy (SWT). It teaches us that Allah (SWT) is the only creator of all creatures and the whole universe. In this surah, Allah (SWT) warns people who don’t believe in Him will get severe punishment as like as the past nations whom Allah (SWT) destroyed.

In this Surah, Allah (SWT) says to the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) to warn disbelievers that Allah (SWT) has all the power to create and destroy anything whenever he wishes to do so. As Allah (SWT) says:

“Blessed is the One in Whose Hands rests all authority. And He is Most Capable of everything.” (67:1)

 Humans should accept the kingdom and supremacy of Allah if they want to avoid the severe torment of Allah (SWT) on the Day of Judgment as Allah (SWT) says:

“Those who disbelieve in their Lord will suffer the punishment of Hell. What an evil destination!” (67:6)

Moreover, this surah tells a piece of good news for people who have faith and believe in Almighty Allah and fear Allah’s anger. Allah says:

Indeed, those in awe of their Lord without seeing Him1 will have forgiveness and a mighty reward.” (67:12)

One Hadith about Surah Mulk teaches us that it is one of the most powerful chapters of the Quran and that it can protect a person from the punishment of the grave.

There are many hadiths about Surah Mulk. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:

“There is a surah in the Qur’an which contains thirty ayahs. It intercedes for its reciter until he is forgiven. It is the Surah of Tabarakalladhi bi yadihi’l-Mulk .” (Sahih Muslim, 807)

It is the 67th chapter/surah of the Quran which contains:

It is positioned in Paara/Juz/Part number 29 of the Quran. It is a Makki surah, that shows that it was revealed in Makkah.. The surah addresses the matter of Tawheed, or the Oneness of God. It also talks about the Day of Judgment and the rewards and punishments that will be given on that day.

Surah Mulk teaches us about the power and majesty of Allah. It reminds us that Allah is the ultimate source of all strength and power and that we should always turn to Allah (SWT) for help and guidance. The surah also emphasizes the need for us to be grateful to Allah for all His blessings and always to remember His mercy and kindness.

The chapter starts with a description of Hell and the torment that awaits those who do not believe in God. It then describes the rewards of those who believe and do good deeds. Finally, it urges people to remember God and to give thanks for His blessings.

 The recitation of Surah Mulk has many benefits. We have mentioned some of the benefits below:

Now we know the precious benefits of the recitation of Surah Al Mulk, and we cannot ignore it either. So, we should not just know about these benefits, but we have to find ways to gain these benefits so that Allah (SWT) blesses us.

Set an everyday routine for reciting Surah Al Mulk read online or offline. The best time to recite is when you are going to sleep. You should take time at least once a day and make ablution (Wudhu), pick the Holy Quran, and recite it with concentration. You will be involved in the blessing of Allah and take away yourself from the torment of the Day of Judgment.

Surah Al Mulk is not a lengthy chapter. It has only 30 verses, which is also not very lengthy. You can memorize one ayah a day and accomplish this great task in a month.

 It is not enough to only read surah Mulk without understanding its meanings; you can’t gain benefits and follow Allah’s (SWT) messages to humans. It is good if you take your time to understand the meanings of every verse of Surah Mulk in English or whatever is your language to know Allah’s supremacy and train yourself to get closer to Allah (SWT). For instance, if your mother tongue is Urdu, you may find surah Mulk with Urdu translation along with surah Mulk Arabic text.  Moreover, you may get it as Surah Mulk pdf or in other formats. Moreover, Allah (SWT) didn’t send the Holy Quran only just to recite but it is a complete guide for humans as Allah (SWT) says in Quran:

“Indeed, we have sent it down as an Arabic Quran so that you may understand.” [12:2]

To understand the Quran, you may attend Quran tafsir classes, or buy a Tafsir e Quran to read yourself. But it is recommended to learn Quran tafsir with any highly qualified and experienced Islamic scholar so that you can understand the true meaning.

The benefits are countless as The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) taught that this surah would be enough for its reciters. This surah teaches us how Allah (SWT) is the lord of everything, and HE can do whatever and whenever HE wants to do. So, every Muslim should recite and understand this surah for better living and rewards on the Day of Judgment.
